I love woodpeckers and this is a particularly cool-looking one (which I have never seen before). In my experience, it’s tough to get unobstructed views of woodpeckers while they are working. The colors of your image are gorgeous, the composition is wonderful, and the details are amazing.

Thanks Mike! I don’t think you have this woodpecker in the US but it’s fairly common over here. They’re quite difficult to photograph because they’re usually way too high up in the trees to get a good view; either you have to back away -and then there are other trees in the way-, or you have to point your camera straight up and get a picture of the bird’s butt. 😉

Thanks Mary! 🙂
Lovely shot – I’ve never seen this particular woodpecker ‘in person’. The image reminds me of a recent sighting of a woodpecker who, unfortunately (unlike this one), was sitting on the wrong end of the branch while drumming away at it. He had to take flight really fast once he pecked all the way through and the branch broke off!

Haha, poor woodpecker! Lucky they got wings and fast reflexes 😉 Thanks for visiting, always appreciated!
